Just as we wear different clothes to suit an occasion, when looking for a job it is sometimes worth considering these CV tips to suit each prospective employer or position you are applying for and to present your best assets accordingly. Consider your skills, your experience and more importantly- you!

For instance if you are a specific engineer you would phrase your CV to emphasise your skills to suit the role required and also give relevent examples of where your technological skills, experience or software abilities will complement the specific job required.

If you issue a generic, one size fits all CV to every client you will naturally find your CV appears to have limited if any success as a result of your CV content being limited or only partially relevant.

Having a CV for a specific type of role, either Radiologist, Nurse, Manager, Engineer, Sales Rep, Trainer or Technician means that the CV content will exlusively reflect the required role. It also means, if you have several years experience you can offer your best and most comprehensive CV without running out of  CV space room without producing an overly long CV.

Similarly having several specific letters means you can choose specifically to present your technical, personal  or management skills exclusively depending on what the Job Description calls for. This is helping the employer or agency and they will be greatful for it.

Once more this allows you to make your best possible presentation and further increases your chances of being called for interview. This of course then means you only have the issue of  deciding what you will choose to wear to  interview. After all it suits you to look and feel at your best when you have presented your best assets.

In the current economic climate we find that employers have the pick of the crop when it comes to choosing candidates for their resourcing requirements. 

Not in decades has there been such an opportunity for Irish employers to choose from such a wide range of superbly qualified candidates with such excellent experience and skills and as a result they are taking their time before they make their selection.

Many employers only too well remember the scarcity of skilled and qualified candidates that existed in the Ireland of less than five years ago and the relentless career and salary demands of prospective employees.  

Fast forward five years and the employment landscape has changed beyond recognition.

Applicants for new positions often describe interminable periods of time waiting for feedback leading to a lack of self worth and a pronounced sense of limbo, this can erode already dwindling confidence whilst waiting and wondering-what happened??

The preeminence of R&D at UCD is very much in evidence and globally renown. Despite the shortcomings of the current government and its recent track record on the economy, its long term investment  strategy in relation to R&D appears to be on target. €14.8m is being invested over the next five years in the Systems Biology Ireland Research Centre and will be centered at the UCD campus, already home to NIBRT, (National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training).

It is hoped that this will make Ireland a leader in the consolidation of computing, maths and biology and will further enhance Ireland’s attractiveness as a site of  foreign direct investment for the future as this state of the art computing center will considerably promote Ireland as a significant R&D center of expertise and scientific research in addition to being a major scientific contributor in the fight against cancer and various other life threatening medical conditions

Adding  to the attractiveness of  NIBRT’s direct industrial applications and capabilities potential, the consolidation of computer modeling and study of biological systems offers a similar appeal to R&D clients. Collectively these  will present considerable marketing advantages for Ireland as a center for foreign direct investment and offers enhanced potential  for collaborative projects which can only improve Ireland’s already excellent reputation for world class scientific and engineering professionalism.
