Medical Sales still booming

Medical Sales booming!

Medical Sales booming!

Medical Sales is still booming even in this current economic climate.

There is a noticeable decline in the Pharmaceutical Sales sector as evident in all the recent redundancies and contract positions not being renewed.

However, the Medical Sales, Medical Products, Medical Equipment and Medical Device Sales are all faring well.

We have a number of Medical Sales jobs currently generally looking for experienced Medical Sales reps, but not Pharmaceutical Sales or GP Reps.

Nursing jobs in abundance

Nursing Opportunities everywhere

Nursing Opportunities everywhere

We have a number of Nursing jobs currently on offer.

This is good news at a time when there is a general slow down and an air of doom and gloom.

There are still Nursing opportunities out there, you just have to look and become flexible.

Long gone is the day when you get to choose your ‘ideal job’

In this market, you need to be flexible and open to challenge and change.

There are opportunities if you are in a position to move abroad in the UK and Australia.

There are a number of Medical Sales roles seeking Nursing backgrounds

Primarily in Wound Care Sales for the Midlands and the West.

There is a  Theatre Nurse job in South Dublin in an idyllic working environment – excellent pay and stable hours, no nights or weekends

So, Nurses, if you can consider change and flexibility in your career path – there are definitely opportunities out there for you.

Grab your job with both hands!

Keep your job!

Keep your job!

Hi guys,

We are getting calls every day currently from people who are trying to change jobs or change career and our advice right now as employment is so insecure, whatever job you have right now, grab it with both hands!

This is not the time to change career direction unless of course redundancy is becoming a risk and you have to upskill or change career direction.

Alot of Sales people are trying to get in to Medical or Pharmaceutical Sales and this is proving more difficult without a Medical/Science qualification and Medical Sales experience.

We hear of redundancies being made every day and for these people we can offer little advice or encouragement as the economy dictates this situation.

Alot of people are turning to college and up skilling which seems to be having a positive effect.

However, if your current job is secure, do not look to change anything as it may not be the best job you ever had, but now is not the time to do anything about it as in a new Company, your will be the last in and therefore the first out as the Redundancy cloud looms.

In a nutshell, whatever your current job is, if it is secure, grab it with both hands.

The time for change will come when the market turns for the better.

Do Nurses make good Medical Sales Reps?

nurses2Do Nurses make good Medical Sales Reps?

We are asked this question a lot and the simple answer is ‘YES’. You might ask ‘WHY’ and the simple reason is, Nurses are good listeners.

Of course it is not only being a good listener that gets you into Medical Sales but a combination of other factors too. A Nurse has a good all-round knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology and in a lot of cases can be a Specialist. A Medical Sales company seeking a Cardiology Sales Rep for example will look at a Nurse who has specialised in this area.

Now don’t get me wrong here. It is not all as simple as that. Not all Nurses want to go into Medical Sales but this blog is focused on those who DO. Those who feel that they have the passion and drive to sell are those Nurses that become successful in Medical Sales.

We have placed a number of Nurses with no Medical Sales experience in Medical Sales companies and they have all been excellent.

Nurses live in a Hospital environment, they speak in  medical terms all day and they are passionate about what they do. The only thing that they are missing is SALES

That is easily rectified as there are a lot of Medical Sales Training courses available focused on medical professionals wanting to get into SALES. For any of you Nurses out there thinking of getting into Medical Sales, these courses are a MUST.

A lot of Nurses find that after a number of years, they are ready for a new challenge and Medical Sales seems a natural career move for them. They like the change of having their week-ends off and working to earn more money.

If any of you Nurses are thinking about a career change, think seriously about Medical Sales.

Ask yourself the questions:

1) Am I passionate about what I do?

2) Am I driven by money?

If the answer to the above is ‘YES’, Medical Sales could be the career move for you.

The M.R.I.I. what’s the big deal for Medical Sales?

medical-sales-meeting1If you are already in medical sales and are looking for new job vacancies, you will likely be asked if you are a member of the Medical Representative Institute of Ireland. If you are looking for your first job in medical sales, you will definitely be asked what you know of the M.R.I.I.

So what is the M.R.I.I. and what’s the big deal?

The Institiute was formed in 1982 and was formed by people working as medical representatives. They function as an educational body for those who are working as, or seeking to work as medical representatives in Ireland.

The Institute provides an opportunity for medical representatives to expand their knowledge of clinical practice. to discuss their experiences with colleagues in the pharmaceutical industry, and to be part of an organisation which is actively invoolved in its members careers.

The Institute is recognised by the state as the examining body for  medical representatives in Ireland. They organise a membership exam for their students in April each year. The MRII examination started in 1987 and to date 733 candidates have successfully completed the examination.

To advance or kickstart your career in medical sales, it is strongly recommended you join the M.R.I.I.

Holding hands with the jobseeker…..

holding-handsI was talking to a Medical Sales Candidate of mine who has recently attended interviews with three Medical companies. I asked him how he got on and he told me the following:

1) the first Medical company who brought him back for second interview told him that he was too expensive and on that basis could not hire him

2) the second Medical company who also called him back for second interview told him that he was far too experienced for the job and that he would get bored

3) the third Medical company is yet to come back to him with feedback. His first interview was a week ago

I think it is very imprtant that the Employer is very frank with the jobseeker at first interview and highlights the unsuitability of a candidate after the interview is complete  A candidate shoould not be called back for second interview unless he/she is a strong contender for the posiiton

As Candidates are very vulerable in the market at the moment, I think the Employer, like the Recruitment Agency should guide the Candidate gently in the recruitment process.

By all means, the Candidate needs a helping hand to find the next suitable position, but let that hand be a warm and caring one. Let’s not fill the Candidate with false expectations at interview stage but rather with practical, frank and helpful advice.

That is what the jobseeker will be thankful for in the future.

The Recession bites the dust for some….

congrats-new-job1A Medical Sales Candidate of ours who has recently been made redundant, had a very pleasant experience today. He got two job offers from two excellent companies!

Like anyone else who loses their job, he was in fear of his mortgage and could not predict how long it would take to get his next job. What was very apparent from the start was that he was remaining positive right through the experience. He did not get affected by all the doom and gloom out there and faced the challenge head on.

He was called for interview for most, if not all jobs that he applied for, and he prepared well for each and every one of his interviews. He did research on every company he interviewed with, and knew the job description inside out. He did his interview preparation with the relevant Recruitment Consultant and had all the necessary information in advance of his interview.

His hard work and positive outlook won out in the end with his two job offers.

There is a lesson here for all of us. Work hard, remain positive and let’s beat this Recession!

Why work in Medical Sales?

Medical Sales MeetingWell, I can think of many reasons, the most important being ,that it is bullet proof in a recession. That is certainly good news as far as the global meltdown is concerned. The adage is ‘People will always get sick’ so Medical and Pharmaceutical companies will always have Medical/Pharma sales jobs.

The Pharmaceutical Industryemploys nearly 24,000 people and it contributes to 12% GDP. There are approximately 3,200 Medical Sales Representatives employed in Ireland.

Why is the job of the Medical Sales Representative so appealing?

1. It is a safe and pensionable job

2. It pays well- entry level salaries are €32-€35k p.a.

3. Good bonus scheme – 15%-30% of salary p.a.

4. Fully expensed company car

5.  Laptop computer with broadband

6. Mobile phone

7. Lunch allowance of 12-18 euro per day

8. Garage allowance

0. Washing the car allowance

10. VHI subscription

11. Pension

With all these benefits, it is no wonder that there has been a huge increase of entry level Medical Sales Representatives into the Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry.

But this job is not for everybody. If it was, there would be no room for any other Industry in this country.

The three most important skills a successful Medical Sales Representative must have are:

1. The ability to communicate effectively

2. The ability to convey information in a clear and precise way

3. The ability to sell

Without doubt, this is a very rewarding career. One word of caution for those who are trying to get into the medical sales arena at entry level, the competition is very stiff. You will be competing with those who are experienced.

Do not be put off, however, as there are a number of companies who are recruiting at entry level. These companies expect that entry level Medical Sales Representatives will have shown their commitment to entering the profession by taking the following steps:

1. Becoming a student member of the Medical Representative Institute of Ireland (MRII)

2. Shadowing a Medical Sales Representative in their job

3. Completing an Introduction to Medical Sales Course

To those that are looking to gain entry into the Medical Sales arena, the very best of Irish luck!
