It’s All in the Details

Details Details Details

Details Details Details

Whether you are applying for a Medical Sales job, a Nursing Job or a job in the Medical Device industry, your CV says everything about you from first glance. Whether you get that second glance depends on the contents of your CV. It’s all in the details you have provided.

Where as once upon a time, your title in the medical company you worked for and the dates you worked there were all self explanatory, these days a little more fine tuning is required in the details of your CV.

For example, if you are a Nurse, it is no longer acceptable to simply give the name of the hospitals you have worked in and your title of “Staff Nurse” and hope for the best. You need those extra details of not just the hospital, but the type of ward, the specific duties you carried out on a daily basis. Whether you are Orthopaedics or Cosmetics… it is all in the details.

Similarly, if you are working in the Kitting Department of a Medical Device company, you cannot just assume that your next potential employer will automatically know what your current job entails:

  • Do you deal with QA? How so?
  • Do you have regular contact with R&D? In what capacity?
  • Do you have detailed involvement with Product Development? Explain the details.
  • Have you named or detailed the specific projects you have worked on?

It is a very difficult mission, and although a bit daunting it will be worth it in the end. It is those extra details in this day and age that could get you that second glance.. possibly the job!

The Recession bites the dust for some….

congrats-new-job1A Medical Sales Candidate of ours who has recently been made redundant, had a very pleasant experience today. He got two job offers from two excellent companies!

Like anyone else who loses their job, he was in fear of his mortgage and could not predict how long it would take to get his next job. What was very apparent from the start was that he was remaining positive right through the experience. He did not get affected by all the doom and gloom out there and faced the challenge head on.

He was called for interview for most, if not all jobs that he applied for, and he prepared well for each and every one of his interviews. He did research on every company he interviewed with, and knew the job description inside out. He did his interview preparation with the relevant Recruitment Consultant and had all the necessary information in advance of his interview.

His hard work and positive outlook won out in the end with his two job offers.

There is a lesson here for all of us. Work hard, remain positive and let’s beat this Recession!

Being pipped at the post…..

Interview successOne of my Candidates who was the hot favourite for one of my Medical Clients got pipped at the post today by a Candidate working for  my Client’s competitor. It was a real shame for my Candidate as he had done an excellent presentation in his second interview and was well liked by the Sales Manager.

Breaking that sort of news on the eve of St Patrick’s Day is not really what rocks my boat. My feeling after today’s experience is that the bar has been raised yet again for Candidates seeking Medical Sales  positions.

The message today is that if you work for a competitor of any of the companies you are seeking new employment with, you are in with a very good chance of getting the job.

For those of you who don’t, prepare your interview very well. We have a very useful link for Interview preparation on our website which will give you all the Interview tips you need. Follow this link: http://www.jackiebrownmedical.ie/advice/interviewtips.php?url=inttips

Most of all Good Luck to all of you going for interview. Believe you are better than the best and of course, Happy St Patrick’s Day for tomorrow!

The more information  you give your Recruitment Consultant on what type of Medical Sales job you want, the better the result.

Let me give you an example. A Medical Sales Representative rang his Recruitment Consultant about a Medical Sales job he saw advertised and questioned the Recruitment Consultant in-depth abouit the job requirements and if he would meet them or not.

The Recruitmemt Consultant had extra information that he was able to pass on with regards to the expectations of the job. If the Candidate had not taken the time to phone and quiz the Recruitment Consultant on the Medical Sales job, he would have missed out on these gems of information.

Never underestimate the power of the Recruitment Consultant as he/she can be your best friend and ultimately is your best ally in getting that dream job in Medical Sales. At all times, partner your Recruitment Consultant.
