Social Networks sites like Face Book and Twitter continue to grow

Facebook is taking up more space at the docklands as news comes of a further 70 jobs being created in the social networking sites head quarters based in the heart of the Dublin Docklands.

These badley needed new jobs are being created in engineering, sales and  finance and are further testament to the growth in social network sites as previously discussed on this blog.

Facebook is based in California and has over 300 million members and over a million members here in Ireland. Those stats alone are seriously worth considering for Irish Medical Recruitment Agencies looking to tap into the current talent pool in Ireland and abroad.

Small wonder that  as previously discussed on this blog, social networks are clearly percieved to be the way forward in future recruitment. Indicative of this were the comments of facebook’s CEO, Sheryl Sandberg, who said at the company’s video presentation yesterday, that the company had not really considered anywhere else other than Ireland because of the number of qualified people here in Ireland.

Ireland has seen a considerable increase in numbers of highly qualified medical, science and R&D professionals looking for jobs in  the fields of Medicine, Science, Research and Development and the recruitment for these jobs is moving further away from traditional jobs boards to the universally available mediums of social networks such as Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook.

Heres to a brighter more social future.

Where are all the jobs? A question a lot of people are asking these days as they scour job boards and recruitment agency sites after months of news about redundancies, layoffs and wage cuts which have forced people to look at pastures new.

Well within the science and technology sectors, it does appear as if there are still some job opportunities for engineers and professionals within the green sciences and medical device manufacturing sectors.

Companies such as ESB, Open Hydro and Aertricity are investing billions in green renewable energy technology projects and are attracting attention from overseas as well as at home. All of these companies retain considerable hope and expectation that these markets will not just be in demand this year but will expand further in the years ahead as the global energy market shifts away from our reliance on fossil fuels.

Over 140 companies in Ireland export €6 billion  euros in medical devices which consutitutes nearly 9% of total exports. The geographic spread and range of  products and services offers potential  to science and technical graduates through out the length and breath of the country offering employment opportunities within every region in Ireland. This is a positive as it reduces the strain on civil and commercial infrastructure that has previously been exerted upon Cork and Dublin as a result of certain industries clustering in on regions that offer strong IT and Utilities infrastructure.

Good News Stories…..

good-newsI was at the NRF (National Recruitment Federatiion) Annual Conference recently and I was very interested in a comment made by Frank Collins, President of the NRF.

He said that what is driving the economy in a downwards spiral is the constant negative news stories that are being published in the press. We all know the expression ‘Bad news travels fast’, but I don’t think we want constant reminders on a minute by minute, day by day basis, that we are in a Recession.

Every man, woman and child walking the street knows that we are in a global downturn but what they are not hearing about are the Good News Stories.

‘Why’? you might ask

The answer is simple. Good News stories do not sell papers.

At the NRF Conference, it was also mentioned that Miriam O’Callaghan, our RTE broadcaster, refused to announce a Good News jobs story on Prime-time.

I, for one, was shocked at this and decided that there and then, I would only concentrate on Good News Stories.

For all our Jackie Brown Medical blog readers, here are a few Good News Job Stories:

1) 200 new jobs have been announced at the Cook Medical plant in Limerick

2) Paypal have announced 35 new jobs at their Dublin plant

3) Abtran in Cork are creating 250 new jobs

4) CIRS(Chemical Inspection and Regulation Service), is setting up its EU Headquarters in Dundalk and will be creating 26 high-level jobs

That is a total of 511 new jobs being created and great news for the economy.

Let’s keep the Good Stories coming. They are out there. We just have to look harder!
